Fue vicepresidente ejecutivo de Apple Computer, responsable de todas las operaciones corporativas y en todas las áreas reportó directamente a Steve Jobs. Estuvo presente en la creación, el desarrollo y el lanzamiento del ordenador Macintosh. Mientras estuvo en Apple las ventas de la compañía se incrementaron en más de tres billones de dólares.
